Dr. Angela Jaime joined the University of Victoria as Vice-President Indigenous in 2026, bringing more than 25 years of experience advancing Indigenous education, equity and anti-racism in post-secondary institutions. An enrolled member of the Pit River Tribe of Northern California, Dr. Jaime is a respected scholar, educator and leader whose work is grounded in Indigenous knowledge, community relationships and institutional transformation.
Prior to joining UVic, Dr. Jaime served as Vice-Provost Indigenous Engagement and Professor of Indigenous Studies at the University of Saskatchewan, where she led major initiatives including the Indigenous strategy, ohpahotân | oohpaahotaan: Let’s fly up together, the U15’s first Indigenous citizenship/membership verification policy, deybwewin | taapwaywin | tapwewin: truth policy and the oyateki Mastercard Foundation grant project. Before moving to Saskatchewan, she spent 16 years at the University of Wyoming as a Professor and Director of Native American & Indigenous Studies and Associate Director of the School of Culture, Gender and Social Justice.
Dr. Jaime holds a PhD from Purdue University and a master’s degree from San Francisco State University’s College of Ethnic Studies. Her research focuses on Indigenous women in higher education, Indigenous citizenship and membership verification, decolonization and institutional change.
As she begins her role at UVic, Dr. Jaime’s leadership reflects a commitment to strengthening relationships, advancing Indigenous priorities and supporting meaningful change across the university. Most importantly, she is the proud mother of two sons, whose lives continue to inspire and guide her work.
